ORANJESTAD -  The commission for integrity in collaboration with the Government of Aruba is working hard to reach the set goals with respect to integrity.

This is the first step towards the establishment of the Integrity Bureau, with the objective to fight the serious lack of integrity within the public sector. Mrs. Amalin Flanegin is in charge with the coordination and the startup of the Bureau including the personnel and corresponding procedures.

The main objectives of the Integrity Bureau are:

  • The screening of important decisions made by Government officials;
  • Enforcing the political campaign sponsoring law, obligating all politicians to publish the list of sponsors and to register all received donations.

There will also be changes in the public tender law. The current law gives ample room for interpretation. With the updates it will make the law straight forward, the rules will be very clear and strict. Once this is completed other laws will follow. Another law that is already budgeted and awaiting the parliament’s approval is the ombudsman law.

The integrity rules will not only apply on Government officials and public workers, but will also apply on all state owned companies.

The startup of the Integrity Bureau is going as planned and soon the job opportunities will be published. The Government is working on the legal establishment of this bureau to guarantee the existence of this important bureau.
