United Nations Universal Children’s Day

ORANJESTAD - November 20th marks an important day as the world commemorates the proclamation of the Universal Declaration of Children’s rights in 1959.

It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

To honor this fundamental right, the Government of Aruba is inviting all the children to attend the opening of a celebration at the Park Curason at Jaburibari starting at 4:30 pm on the 19th of November 2018.

Ad Celebration International Children's Rights day at Parke Curason in JaburibariThis treaty gives the children some fundamental rights; including the right to healthcare, education, recreation, a home, protection against violence and discrimination and the right to be heard.

In 2001 this treaty was also signed by the Aruba government, committing to the right for each child to develop their personality, talent and emocional capacity and to develop mentally and physically.

Beside celebrating this day, it should also encourage everybody to reflect on the status of the implementation of children’s rights in Aruba.

Lots has been done already but there still is a long way to go. The objective remains; children should really benefit from all their rights.
