On May 10, 2019, Prime Minister Wever-Croes signed a decree and announced the closure of the Aruba - Venezuela border. On June 10 2019, the border closure was extended for three more months.
The situation in Venezuela will be carefully monitored and evaluated in the coming months and a decision will be made either to keep it closed or to open the border with the neighboring country.
According to the law, the border cannot be closed for an indefinite period but should be set for a certain duration and should include a justification for the closure.
The Government needs to handle this matter according to law.
The border closure will be extended from September 10, 2019, onward with three months, namely till December 10, 2019.
