The goal of the Book Festival is to stimulate reading among children and to intrigue them with stories and information on a variety of topics.
Schools, bookstores and other institutions are all part of the festival. Activities will be held from Monday, November 4, 2019, until November 8, 2019 from 3 pm at the library.
This year's festival will include writers and illustrators like; Fred Diks, Juliette de Wit, Jeroen Hoogerwerf and illustrator Gewout Esselink from The Netherlands, Alvin Inecia and Cathleen Giterson from Curacao, Xiomara Frans -Muller and Denise de Jongh-Rekwest from Bonaire and Pedro Vargas from Colombia. Aruba will be represented by local talents such as Richard Dabian, Olga Buckley, Shaila Vrolijk-Balgobind, Emerita Emerencia, and Sergio Tjie A Loi.
This year’s main festival theme is “Means of Transport”. The Library, with their slogan; “Lets read, travel and enjoy”, is inviting children on a book journey. It’s not about the destination of this journey, it is primarily about the means of getting there. Reading a book can bring you to space in a rocket or set you on adventures on a cruise ship, explore countries on road trips, drive a tractor and navigate the oceans on a catamaran. Traveling enriches your life and reading books can help you discover the world.
Activities will be held at participating schools and the National Library in Oranjestad and San Nicolas in the first week of November. Participating bookstores will also organize activities in the week of the Book Festival. The festival will officially start on November 1, 2019, at the Cas di Cultura.
