Border with Venezuela remains closed for three more months

ORANJESTAD - The Government of Aruba decided that the border of Aruba with Venezuela will remain closed.

It will extend the border closure with three months from December 10, 2019, so until March 10, 2020.

Both Aruba and other countries in the area have seen a large influx of illegal migrants from Venezuela. This puts enormous pressure on the already limited capacity and resources of the countries. At this moment, around 2,000 asylum applications were filed in Aruba and will be processed taking into account human right treaties.

The government of Aruba closely monitors and evaluates the situation in Venezuela, however the condition is still critical. Therefore, the border will remain closed..
