Budget 2020 with surplus of 29 million, 0.5%

ORANJESTAD - The government of Aruba announced on November 11, 2019 that the budget for 2020 has finally been finalized, with the surplus of 0.5% or 29 million florins as agreed with the Netherlands.

Also the personnel standard of Afl. 476 million has been reached. The Minister of Finance, Economic Affairs and Culture explained the general outline of the budget, and stated that Aruba is not yet out of the crisis, but is well on its way to achieving it. When asked, she indicated that although the budget is not fully in line with planning, the government is acting within the legally set deadline of December 15, 2019. According to the Laft, at least on December 15 there should be a view of a budget and that will certainly work out.
Large deficits in the past, up to 300 million florins, have now been reduced to a first surplus in years.

The aim is to submit the budget to Parliament as soon as possible.
