United Nations Universal Children’s Day

ORANJESTAD - November 20 marks an important day as the world commemorates the adaptation of the Universal Declaration of Children’s rights in 1959.

Opening Children’s weekIt is also the date in 1989 when the UN General assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. This year is the 30th Anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Activities calendar Children’s weekTo honor this fundamental right, the Government of Aruba is inviting all the children to attend the opening of a celebration at the Centro di Bario Brasil starting at 4:00 pm on November 15, 2018. In the activities calendar you will find more information over the activities to be held during the children’s week to honor this special day.

This treaty gives the children some fundamental rights; including the right to healthcare, education, recreation, a home, protection against violence and discrimination and the right to be heard.

30 year convention on the right of the childIn 2001 this treaty was also signed by the Aruba government, committing to the right for each child to develop their personality, talent, emotional capacity, and mental and physical development.

In addition to celebrating this day, it should also encourage everybody to reflect on the status of the implementation of children’s rights in Aruba.

Lots have been done already but there still is a long way to go. The objective remains; children should benefit from all their rights.

We work together on an informative, accessible and user-friendly Government Portal for Aruba.
