On August 25, 2021, the director of the Aruba Ports Authority (APA) Mr. Marc Figaroa presented the annual accounts for 2020 to the Minister of Tourism, Public Health, and Sports, Mr. Dangui Oduber.Minister Oduber remarked that as was the case with other government companies, 2020 was a difficult year for APA. The pandemic substantially affected the income of APA in 2020. Nonetheless, APA managed its expenses in the most responsible and best manner possible. Since March 13, 2020, APA did not receive any cruise ship in our port. These cruise ships are an instrumental part of the income that APA generates. In addition, because of the pandemic, cruise companies decided to cancel all their itineraries in 2020. It was not until June of 2021, after the pandemic began, that Aruba received its first cruise ship, resulting in severe losses for APA.

Notwithstanding all the challenges in 2020, APA suffered a loss of 1.4 million. It was thanks to the proactivity displayed by APA that costs were kept low.
