CIOS education in The Netherlands

ORANJESTAD - Do you like sports and exercise?

If you do, then the “Central Institution for the Education of Sports Leaders” CIOS, can be what you need. This institution is a sports formation education on a Secondary vocational education level that can lead to a profession in sports and exercise.

Logo Central Institution for the Education of Sports Leaders CIOSWith the CIOS diploma, you can work in Aruba in the hospitality sector, with a sports club or organization, foundations, and Government Departments.

Admission to the CIOS education:

  • The minimum required education is a MAVO diploma or you have passed year 3 of your havo education and can progress to year 4 (proof of completion of HAVO 3). Applicants are subjected to different tests to see if they qualify for the CIOS in The Netherlands. 
  • The first test is a physical test that the person must complete to proceed to the next examinations that entail a Dutch language test and Mathematics test, both of which you can do online. After evaluation of the online tests, a verbal test will be given in person by a CIOS instructor who will be in Aruba. 
  • Upon completing all tests, you are admitted to the CIOS. It is advisable to be at least 18 years of age to be able to apply for a study loan via “Dienst Uitvoerend Onderwijs” DUO in The Netherlands, as Aruba does not provide loans for Secondary Vocational Education level. This test is only for admission to the CIOS Arnhem

The physical test will take place in February 2021 and is only for those interested in the 2021-2022 school year. 

The physical test includes swimming, gymnastics, running 3 km, and should dominate different the technical aspects of sports like volleyball, basketball, and football.
