ORANJESTAD - The Minister of Economic Affairs, Communication and Sustainable Development, Mr. Geoffrey Wever, informs that the inspectors of the Department of Economic Affairs, Industry and Trade (DEACI) control the prices of products in the basic basket in all supermarkets and mini-markets around Aruba daily.

Price controlsThis daily price check is necessary to guarantee that there is no price abuse of products regulated by the Minister of Economic Affairs (basic basket). During these checks, it is possible to detect some primary goods that do not meet the fixed prices, although it is uncommon. As soon as the inspectors observe price irregularities, they instruct the supermarket or mini-market owner to correct these prices according to the law.

Price controlsThe determination of maximum prices are regulated in the law “Prijzenverordening AB 1991 no. GT17”. The price ordinance gives the Minister of Economic Affairs the authority to determine the maximum price of various products if the prices set by the businesses affect the public interest.
