This daily price check is necessary to guarantee that there is no price abuse of products regulated by the Minister of Economic Affairs (basic basket). During these checks, it is possible to detect some primary goods that do not meet the fixed prices, although it is uncommon. As soon as the inspectors observe price irregularities, they instruct the supermarket or mini-market owner to correct these prices according to the law.
The determination of maximum prices are regulated in the law “Prijzenverordening AB 1991 no. GT17”. The price ordinance gives the Minister of Economic Affairs the authority to determine the maximum price of various products if the prices set by the businesses affect the public interest.
