Even though COVID cases rapidly surged on the island, data indicates that children under 12 years are not a high-risk group.
Based on this information, the Crisis Team does not see any valid reason for schools to remain closed with all consequences for education in Aruba. Although the children younger than 12 years are not a group of risk, the Crisis Team has received concerns from many parents and has decided to leave the decision to the parents whether their child should make their child wear a face mask or not at school.
Since most children under the age of 12 years who tested positive for COVID have very light symptoms, the Crisis Team urges parents not to send their children to school with even the slightest flu-like symptoms.
Keep them home and have them tested to help protect others and help keep the spreading of COVID among this group low.
