Driver’s licenses expired between March 16 and December 30, are valid until December 31, 2020

ORANJESTAD - The Minister of Justice, Mr. Andin Bikker announced an extension of the renewal period for expired drivers’ licenses.

These expired drivers’ licenses will remain valid until December 31, 2020.

Driver’s licenseDue to the pandemic, the Minister of Justice introduced a temporary driver’s license renovation policy in March 2020, based on article 9, paragraph 1 of the National Decree on driving and inspection certificates (AB 1999 no. 61).

Building Driving Licenses  and Driving testBased on the mentioned renovation policy, drivers must renew their driver’s license within one year of its expiration if the only reason for renovation is the expiration. Considering the exceptional situation due to the Covid19 pandemic, which caused a considerable delay in the renovation process, the Minister decided to extend the procedure temporarily. The extension is valid for driver’s licenses expired or expiring between March 16 and December 30, 2020, and all will be considered valid until December 31, 2020. The extension applies to one or more categories indicated on the driver’s license.

Keep in mind that the expired driver’s licenses will only be valid in Aruba and remain expired when driving abroad.

The process will be adapted once things improve, obviously considering a transitional period.
