DTI started since October 2019 with the application with the Ministerial Regulation, Regulation for the Inspection of Elevators

ORANJESTAD – Recently the Department of Technical Inspection (DTI) took notice of different elevators on the island getting stuck with people inside. 

Inspection of elevatorsInspection of elevatorsTherefore, the DTI informs once again that since October 1, 2019, they started with the implementation of the Ministerial Regulation of December 2, 2015, namely the Regulation for the Elevator Inspection.

According to article 7 of the Regulation for the Elevators Inspection, the DTI can recognize a company based on its Department head’s petition to the Minister to recognize a company as   authorized to inspect elevators.

In this context the Liftinstituut Solutions Caribbean N.V. made a request and got the authorization to inspect elevators under the supervision of DTI.

Since October 1, 2019,  Liftinstituut Solutions Caribbean N.V. in conjunction with DTI started with the inspection of elevators in Aruba. These elevators were installed by a company recognized by the DTI to install elevators.

Based on article 3 of the Regulation for the Inspection of elevators, only recognized companies can install and inspect elevators.

Since October 1, 2019, DTI in conjunction with Liftinstituut informed different hotels, companies and establishments to start the inspection process of their elevators. Various of these entities reacted and started the inspection process. Some got a time-line to make adaptations.  After the conclusion of the inspection process they got their certificate.

This year DTI started placing stickers on the elevator to indicate that the elevator has been inspected by the DTI.

However at the end of 2020 the inspection resumed and from 2021 till now the inspection take place on a weekly basis.

It is the responsibility of each owner to contact the authorities in charge to start the inspection process of their elevators.
