They offer these vaccinations to protect and prevent severe complications from the serious respiratory influenza virus for older individuals and at-risk groups residing in nursing homes. Nursing homes are known for daily visitors and employees coming in and out of the various care centers. This frequent flow of people increases the risk of introducing and spreading viruses, including influenza and COVID-19, among nursing home residents. These respiratory viruses cause severe complications for individuals 60 years and older and other vulnerable groups in our community.
DVG advises all older individuals and clients residing in nursing homes to take both vaccines this year and to do so every year. DVG will ensure visits to all nursing homes in the coming weeks with a team of nurses to administer vaccinations to every older individual and client in the nursing homes. They request the families of older individuals and clients in nursing homes to contact the facility where their family members reside to obtain information about the possibility of receiving both vaccines.
