Five cases of the new British Covid19 strain reported in Aruba

ORANJESTAD - Local authorities have received the results of tests sent to the Netherlands for verification and this confirmed the presence of the new U.K. Covid-19 variant in 5 individuals in Aruba.

Coronavirus COVID-19 - Source RIVMTwo persons infected with this new strain are non-residents while the other 3 are residents.

The British strain is more contagious compared to the “original” Covid-19 virus. This contagiousness

leads the local authorities to urge the entire community to be extra cautious now.

During the upcoming days, the Crisis Team will evaluate possible new measures to mitigate the impact of the new strain in Aruba.

From now the Crisis Team urges the community to avoid family visits, limit social encounters. Limit contact with others both at work and at all other places.
