The visit took place in the context of the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). During his visit, the Governor spoke with volunteers, employees, and board members of Red Cross Aruba and was informed about how they deal with the challenges that the crisis poses.
During a tour, Governor Boekhoudt was informed about the various activities that the Red Cross is carrying out in the context of the Corona crisis. For example, Red Cross Aruba is currently distributing meals and food boxes in the “Meals on Wheels Program” and with the “Proyecto Asistencia Social” it offers social assistance in the form of digital vouchers for food and hygiene products. The latter project also provides access to health care and medicines to people affected by the consequences of the Corona crisis. Red Cross Aruba has also digitized its elderly project, in which lonely elderly people are now called weekly by their buddy.
Through telephone conversations and, if possible, working visits, Governor Boekhoudt is informed about the consequences of the corona outbreak and expresses his support and appreciation for the efforts of so many in the fight against the pandemic. Measures are taken in consultation with the organizations involved to allow working visits to take place safely.
