Graduates of Aruba stood out in the course Certified Legislative Lawyer

ORANJESTAD – Recently a ceremony took place at the Renaissance Convention Center for 18 Certified Legislative Lawyer’ graduates.

The first group participated in the course, with a duration of approximately one year, received their diploma from the Minister of Justice, Security and Integration Mr. Andin Bikker.

Almost all areas of society are regulated by law and all government plans and all government programs include the introduction of new legislation or change in the existing legislation. Therefore it is essential to increase the number of legislative lawyers.

In this framework, since the budget of 2018, the government prioritized the training of lawyers in   the drafting of laws. It became a reality based on the cooperation between the Caribbean Center for Legislation of the  Universidad of Curacao and the Ministry of Justice, Security and Integration with the establishment of an 'Aruba Desk'.

The course started with 47 participants from Curacao, Aruba and St. Maarten of which 40 did graduate. Of the group of Aruba, 18 did graduate and two still have the opportunity to take the re-examination.

Two participants finished their studies with the judicium “with merit”, namely Milko Baiz and  Carondina Leijdekkers. This means that they had an average final grade of 7.5. and never got a grade below seven.

Two particpants, Ilona Sneek and Valerie Wanga, graduated with “Summa Cum Laude”. To graduate with this judicium means that they never got a grade below 8.5 and with an average of 9. Valerie Wanga got grades as high as 9.5 and never below 9, which is considered a truly  amazing result.

All four honor graduates received an acknowledgement plaque, as a sign of appreciation for their achievement.

Meanwhile the new course started with another group of participant and a year from now we have new legislative lawyers.
