The Minister of Tourism and Public Health, Mr. Dangui Oduber, was also present and applauded the HOH's position concerning being smoke-free and setting a leading example to other entities and state-owned companies. It is a crucial step towards implementing the National Decree Limitation Tobacco products (Landsverordening Beperking Tabaksproducten - AB 2016 no.41).
This law came into effect on Monday, May 2, 2022, and prohibits anyone under 21 from buying, using, or working nearby tobacco products. The law also prohibits using tobacco products indoors or in areas accessible to others.
To comply with this law, the HOH decided to restrict the use of cigarettes, cigars, electronic smoking devices, or any tobacco-containing product on the entire premises of the HOH, including the parking lot, LABHOH, and the Blood-bank and policlinics both outdoors and indoors.
According to the Minister, this law is one of the crucial aspects of the National Prevention Health Plan. It improves the quality of life, healthcare, and general health of the Aruban community. With this essential step by the HOH, the Minister hopes other entities and state-owned companies follow and comply with AB 2016 no.41 soon.
