ORANJESTAD - The annual influenza vaccination campaign of the DVG has started. 

┬┐Why should you get the influenza vaccine?

Influenza is a disease that can be potentially serious and lead to hospitalization, and in severe cases, can even be fatal.

Every year the influenza strain changes, which can affect individuals differently. 

The yearly flu shot is the best available protection against this virus. It is scientifically proven that the flu shot is beneficial since it reduces the risks of developing complications caused by the virus, hospitalization, and the chances of severe health issues.

Currently, those at higher risks of contracting the following diseases are eligible for the free vaccine: 

  • Influenza shotBronchitis;
  • Pneumonia;
  • Constant flu;
  • Are 60 years or older;
  • Children under the age of 5;
  • Chronic or respiratory illnesses
  • Obese, or pregnant;
  • Have a lower immune system due to cancer or HIV.

Those qualifying for the free vaccine should present a doctor's prescription and valid AZV card and should visit one of these locations on the date and time of the appointment. Persons 60 years or older are only required to show their valid AZV card. Visiting any of these locations for the vaccine is exclusive with an appointment. Please make your appointment online on or by calling 5224239 or 5224241.

Individuals who are not in the higher risk group and do not qualify for the free flu shot can only receive the vaccine at the main building of the section for infectious diseases and should purchase this. Paying for the vaccine is only possible with an appointment that can be made online on, and in case there is no access to the internet, by calling 5224239 or 5224241. The DVG prefers appointments made online since their phone lines are busy in connection with Covid-19. Hence, callers should be patient when dialing the DVG. The flu vaccine costs Awg. 20,00 and can only be paid for with a debit card. Cash is not accepted.
