ORANJESTAD - On December 1, 2022, the AFTA organized the forum Making markets work for consumers and businesses, which took place at the Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino.

The forum was well attended and had both local and international speakers.

  • Mr. Albert Scholten (implementation manager at AFTA);
  • Mr. Christof Swaak LLM. Ph.D. (Partner at law firm Stibbe New York);
  • Mrs. drs. Jeanne Fabian (interim Director at Fair Trade Authority Curacao).

During the forum, Mr. Scholten briefly explained the Competition Ordinance in Aruba and a few law regulations that will come into effect after the implementation phase. Mr. Swaak focused on the opportunities his new law will create for companies active in the market of Aruba.

Mrs. Fabian shared a little of her experience in Curacao about its Competition law and its impacts on consumers and commerce.

After the presentations, the speakers answered questions from the public. It was an engaging and valuable Q&A discussion.

Due to the high demand for this subject, the AFTA will soon organize more events for their stakeholders. The AFTA is inviting all its stakeholders interested in its informative sessions to contact the AFTA at info@afta.aw.

The entire forum is available on the Facebook page of AFTA Aruba Fair Trade Authority. More information about the Competition Law, future events, and awareness campaigns are available on their Facebook page.

The AFTA is grateful to all the participants and the speakers.

We work together on an informative, accessible and user-friendly Government Portal for Aruba.
