ORANJESTAD - On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, the Department of Public Works (DOW) initiated the project to install new and additional street lighting in Caya Betico F. Croes.

The installation includes 50 new lampposts to replace existing ones.

New street lighting in Caya Betico Croes. The government has been working for some time in collaboration with DOW on revitalization projects in Oranjestad. The various projects aim to have a positive impact on the city center. Over 60,000 florins were invested in street lighting to improve safety and make Caya Betico F. Croes more appealing at night. In addition to lighting, there are other planned and ongoing infrastructure projects.

After a few months of delay, DOW will soon complete the other project at Wilhelminastraat and Columbusstraat. This project will improve accessibility, expand public space, provide facilities for precario permits (permits to place objects in public areas), contribute to cleanliness, and expand parking. The primary goal is to enhance the business ambiance in this area.

There are several challenges to overcome in the context of urban renewal in this area, and they are receiving the necessary attention. The government and various stakeholders are working on doable short-term projects while preparing for more sustainable and long-term ones.

Collaboration between the private sector and the government remains essential to transforming Oranjestad into a renewed city center to make Oranjestad a hub for gastronomy and residence.
