Everywhere in Aruba, people are committed to the Aruban community. Often they do that in all silence and in the background but should be put in the spotlight. Someone can earn a ribbon if there are significant personal merits for society.
It can be voluntary work, but also a special filling of a paid main job or a combination of both:
- These are volunteers who have selflessly committed themselves to organizations for 15 years or more, groups, neighborhoods, or individuals in, for example, sports, art, culture, religion, nature, the social field, youth work, care for the elderly, public order and safety, etc.
- Someone who delivers exceptional performance on the job may also qualify.
In such a case, it concerns exceptional merit in the work that goes considerably beyond what may be expected, and from which society benefits.
In case you know such a person, you can nominate this person for a Royal recognition to receive the special honor. Anyone can submit a nomination, including organizations or authorities. All proposals must be submitted in writing using two forms. These forms with the associated instructions and explanation are available from May 5, 2022, during office hours at the desk of the Administrative Office in Oranjestad and San Nicolas, at all MFAs, or with the members of the Aruba Decoration Committee.
You can also download the forms here:
In Aruba, the Aruba Decoration Committee is charged with processing the nominations and with the associated research. They will send the nominations to the Netherlands through the official channels where the Dutch Chapter for the Civil Orders will process them.
To properly assess the nominee's merits, it is essential to provide the requested information as complete and comprehensive as possible. The forms must be completed in full and signed, and the nomination must be well substantiated.
The Decoration Committee Aruba emphasizes that the Royal award should be a surprise for the person concerned. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that the nominated candidate is NOT informed about the nomination and is not involved in filling out the forms. It also prevents disappointment if they do not get the award.
The deadline for submission of nominations for a Royal recognition for 2023 is July 25, 2022. Incomplete proposals and proposals submitted after this date can unfortunately not be processed. The Decoration Committee Aruba and the Dutch Chapter for the Civil Orders take only complete submissions received in time under consideration.
The nominations must be handed in, in a sealed envelope at the reception desk of the Administrative office in Oranjestad. Please address the envelope to the Aruba Decoration Committee, c/a Office of the Minister of General Affairs, L.G. Smith Boulevard 76, Oranjestad, Aruba.
The Decoration Committee Aruba is pleased that many nominations are received each year. It hopes many people from the Aruban community get recognition with the special ribbon during the King’s Day celebration in 2023 for the essential work they do for the community.
