The center aims to become an expertise center that guides families and children going through complex divorce cases.
The establishment of the Youth and Family Plan was because scientific research has proven that conflicts during divorce can have negative consequences on children. The Government of Aruba has placed this project among its top priorities and taken several significant steps in terms of legislation, management, and professional development to enhance the well-being and safety of children. The introduction of the Family Mediation training, in which 13 professionals participated, has been instrumental, as well as ongoing scientific research in collaboration with Utrecht University on this subject.
The national awareness campaign against child abuse, "Mi Mesun Heroe," was introduced, along with different working methods such as "Signs of Safety" and the "Child Protection Code" in various sectors to improve work processes in specific cases and identify cases of abuse as early as possible. Laws also established rules for our care centers' records keeping and functioning. In addition, the Family Justice Center's founding is crucial because of the support it offers to victims, as well as how it handles abuse cases.
Keeping children's needs front and center, reestablishing communication for their welfare, and giving them a stronger voice throughout the process are the key objectives of the Plan di Mayor desk.
