This training is possible thanks to the Minister of Education and Sports, Mr. Endy Croes, the school boards, IPA teachers, representatives of the Healthy Schools platform, health and movement teachers, the Department of Public Health, and the Department of Social Affairs.
A Dutch instructor will come to Aruba to give this training, which will take place from Tuesday to Friday at the Surfside marina. This training is in the context of Aruba’s national prevention plan for non-communicable diseases.
Lifestyle is an educational program that stimulates and guides our children from a young age, in the emotional and social fields, on how to make healthy choices in the physical, nutritional, and mental fields. The goal is to empower children to be resilient and aware of their surroundings. The goal is for this program to be a sustainable and structural part of schools, like a course.
This program focuses on acquiring and maintaining a healthy lifestyle that will help transform our children and future generations. The aim is to recognize the importance of lifestyle changes, lead healthy lives by consuming less sugar and salt, and participate in physical activities, for example, sports.
The Ministry of Public Health is implementing the national prevention plan launched a few years ago and is focusing on four pillars:
- The Healthy Lifestyle Center opened its doors in January. Now this center has 104 clients actively participating. This center is for adults where they receive guidance on how to eat and live healthily by doing physical activities,
- JUMP 18 programs, led by Dr. Busari, for participants 4 – 18 years.
- Healthy school program announced last May. The training that will take place is an integral part of this program.
- Healthcare awareness campaigns to ensure a healthy community and to elevate vitality and productivity.
