The survey's objective is to get a complete and current overview of the labor market in Aruba. The gathered data will determine the employment and unemployment rate. This information and previously collected data will determine labor market trends. It also helps the Government and businesses to refine and improve their policies based on the labor market in Aruba.
The EFL June 2022 will be conducted by phone and online. It targets participants of the Censo2020 and the EFL2021. These individuals will receive a phone call for an interview or an email that will contain more information, including the link to complete the online survey. The survey consists of basic questions for everyone in the household. However, the labor market-related questions are specifically for those aged 15 and older. According to the International Labor Organization (ILO), only individuals older than 15 years, are considered in the country's labor force.
It is essential for those aged 15 and older to cooperate and complete the entire survey when approached by phone or email. Compared to the EFL2021, the EFL June 2022 is considerably shorter and contains only basic questions to assess the current labor market in Aruba. The survey also includes two questions about the use of the four languages spoken in Aruba, namely Papiamento, Dutch, English, and Spanish, since it is essential for those already working or looking for a job in Aruba, to be able to communicate in more than one language.
During the EFL June 2022, a team will assist at the CBS with any eventual questions by phone or by filling out the online survey. This team will be available from Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and during the weekend from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
You may reach the Helpdesk by calling 524 7433 (ask to be connected with the EFL June 2022 team). For any information or to make an appointment for assistance with the survey, send an email to LFS2021@cbs.aw
Before starting with the EFL June 2022, it is essential to share the report of the conclusions of the EFL2021, which took place in November 2021 by the CBS and DAO and the Central Bank of Aruba.
Data collected from the EFL2021 indicates that in November 2021, 49.998 persons ages 15 and older were employed, while 4.836 persons were unemployed and 24.627 individuals were not active in the labor market.
The last group of people were not working and had no desire to work. This group mainly consisted of students or seniors that are already retired.
This shows that in November 2021, there was an employment index of 55.9%, which is an increase compared to the Censo2020 held in October 2020, where the employment index was 50,5%.
The unemployment index in November 2021 (8.8%) also shows an increase compared to October 2020 (8.6%). The non-active index indicates a decrease from 44.7% in 2020 to 38.6% in 2021.
The attached graphic shows the development of the labor market from 2016 to 2021. The EFL2021 results are published on the CBS website and soon on the DAO's website.
