ORANJESTAD - World Kidney Day is a yearly event that takes place on the second Thursday of March and fell on March 9 this year.

Although hard to calculate, there are approximately 200 dialysis patients in Aruba (excluding those who underwent kidney transplants). Chronic kidney disease CKD comes into five categories. Dialysis patients have CKD number 5. 

Compared to the rest of the world, the number of dialysis patients (CKD5) in Aruba is high.

Who is affected by kidney disease more, men or women?
There is no significant difference in gender when dealing with kidney disease.

The vast majority of people suffering from kidney disease in Aruba are people older than 55 years of age.

What other diseases can trigger kidney disease?
Diabetes Mellitus and Hypertension (high blood pressure).

  • Eat healthily. Avoid excessive fats, sugars, and salt;
